Toyota Premio [1996-1999]
In countries like Kenya, The word Premio is a household name, and mostly you will hear the name being christened into many versions, but the most outstanding one is "nyoka" meaning snake.
I have no idea how this name was coined to denote this particular car, but you going to love its relevancy.
Toyota started the production of Premio in the year 1996, that's when the name 'Premio' first appeared. The previous models carried the name 'corona'.(not related to the coronavirus though).
This 1996 model came equipped with a variety of engines
Petrol engines. Diesel engines
1.6L: -4A-fe, 2.0L: -2ct,
1.8L: -7A-fe, 2.2L: -3ct.
2.0L: -3S-fe,
2.0L: -3s-ge
2.0L: -3s-gte(this had a turbo)
Among all those engines powering this car, the 1800cc - 7a-fe was the most popular one, This double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine was loved by the enthusiasts,it was an acclaimed motor, it produced 120bhp at 6000rpm and 157 Nm of torque at 4400rpm, Toyota did have a lean burn engine type of the 7a-fe but it was problematic.
In the year 1999 Toyota brought in a facelift and that's when it was christened as the 'Premio nyoka'. It was the most comfortable, powerful, and loved family saloon as per those day's, this nyoka delivered, it slithered along the road as swiftly as it's namesake. It was swift.
Come year 2000 the production was stopped and and a new model was launched. The Premio 240.
