Toyota corolla Axio
'Axio'a word crafted from Greek meaning "things with value" is the name that Toyota gave their new car after they discontinued The corolla nze.
So after they discontinued the NZE,Toyota had to bring in a replacement immediately, a car that would fit on that glove that the NZE was exiting,so they brought in AXIO, both as a saloon and the station wagon.
The new vehicle came in with a redesigned body kit, both on outside and the interior, a refined infotainment, a new dashboard came and even the steering wheel adjustment was redesigned, you can now adjust your steering 4 ways;-up, down, away or closer to you.
Coming to the engine, Toyota brought in various engines this time around -:2ZR-FE(1800cc),1NZ -FTE( for Axio- GT) ,and a refined 1NZ-FE(1500cc).
Fuel consumption on 1nz-fe was improved, better mileage per gallon than on the previous model.
The transmission was changed from the convectional automatic gear box to a new Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT).
The car was given an improved power out put from 107 bhp to 110 bhp, torque was also increased from 100 nm to 140 nm of torque on the 1500cc one's.
Now the new gearbox brought in new challenges ,since most African countries buy second hand cars, this new technology proved tough to the mechanics who were only familiar and accustomed to the old convectional automatic gearbox.
So what's that one issue that proved a challenge to the buyers of this new car? The new transmission ,the moment you buy the car and you fail to get it serviced well using the recommended CVT transmission fluid then you are automatically headed to that road that leads to replacement of the whole box.
But how would you know that you need to change the transmission oil and yet the car doesn't have a gearbox dipstick?
Professional advice; change it immediately before you drive away, you will be amazed by the amount of transmission fluid you will drain off,so to be on the safe side just have your gearbox serviced immediately you buy the vehicle, ask your Mech to clean the transmission fluid filter and to examine for any metal chippings on the drained fluid, any metal chippings on the old fluid suggests that you have a damaged transmission, its just a matter of time before it stalls.
Other tell tale signs of a damaged transmission are
1) a hissing sound when you accelerate.
2). sluggish response .
The type of CVT fluid to use when servicing your transmission should be the Toyota certified type, not just any other transmission oil.
Other than the issue of the cvt gearbox the 1500cc Axio has no any other major issue except for the dashboard getting chipped off easily on 2007 model, which you can replace with a 2009 model(this is abit tough and doesn't chip off easily)
